Problem
The existing manufacturing facility required an engaging and inviting visual experience where each visitor can experience the romance of Harley Davidson and the roar of its V-Twin engine. Not just a tour center but combined with offices and innovation space to support manufacturing and its employees.
The programming result consisted of a multi-use addition including state-of-the-art tour center with a 100 seat auditorium, retail store along with employee cafeteria, workout area and locker rooms.

The additions architectural design philosophically extends out into the community welcoming visitors of all ages to experience the V-Twin. The timeless appearance and the extraordinary durability of the brick structure animates the durability of the manufacturing facility (airplane factory parts). The interiors transparent glazing and reflective metal surfaces animate finishes of the motorcycles and engage the visitor at multiple levels on both interior and exterior. The museums wall and ceilings become one fluid surface which captures spatial volume taking ques from the factory while guiding the visitor through the exhibits and leading to the theatre and public spaces.

Accolades
As a direct result of my interior design work and client relationship during this project, I was invited by the Harley Davidson Public Relations department to work with them to co-create a Grand Opening of the new facility centered on customer experience which included a 100-mile ride to the building, in-depth tours which I led along with live music and a celebration of the successful project. As a final celebration, a photo was taken and signed by me and everyone involved in the project and placed in a time capsule within the column in the museum to be opened on the 200th anniversary of HD.
